Hello, hope you all are doing Well! I am from Pakistan
I recently bought the car listed above ATIV 1.5L having CVT transmission. Current ODO reading is 3800 km.
A rubber like squeaking noise is coming from front passenger side when car passed over speed bumps. Short duration sound comes when car rise or lowered from speed bump.
One thing strange for me is that no squeak sound observed on speed bump/rough road for initial 20-30 km drive after that squeak sound starts and become clearer and a bit louder. After 50 km drive squeak sound is observed on every speed bump, un-even roads with large potholes but every time sound comes from front passenger side.
Actually, this sound started after my car's accident. A stray dog hit to front passenger side of my car. Bumper, splash guard sheets and lower control arm were replaced. Toyota mechanic diagnosed that dog hit side wheel also pushed 2 cm backward and lower control arm got bent that's why he replaced it with new OEM Lower control arm.
After replacement of control arm this squeaking sound was observed.

Please help me! What to do further.

For him to have replaced the lower control arm, the sway bar had to be disconnected. There is a rubber bushing that attaches to the lower control arm. I suspect that is what you are hearing, but that is a theory at this point.

If you look at pic 1 below, I highlighted the bushing and bar. Inspect that bushing. If possible, have someone bounce the front of the vehicle to reproduce the noise so you can listen to see if that is where it is coming from.

If there is no noise from that location, look at pic 2. I highlighted the areas on the control arm that could be making noise.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks a lot, dear Joe for your response. Yes, I was also suspecting the same bush you highlighted in the pics because mechanic placed retainer ring at wrong position as shown in pics. First pic shows there is a metal retainer but in second pic retainer ring is missing. Mechanic placed this ring on upper side of lower arm.
Yesterday I went to workshop for rectification of fitting of sway bar bushings as per drawings, but that sound remained as it is. It's strange that rubbery squeak start pronouncing after 30-40 km drive even this sound didn't come on speed bumps with in first 30-40 kms drive but when once this sound started to pronounce it keep coming up not only on speed bumps but also on uneven roads. Sound is just like an old bed misplaced joints noise. This is very irritating as car is brand new with just 3800 km on the odometer.

Hi,

It was put back together wrong. Each side of the stabilizer link (your pics shows the bottom) should have a rubber bushing in each side where it mounts to the bar and the control arm. See pic 1 below that shows a pic of parts.

Pic 2 (I tried to draw it) shows how it is done. The red bar at the top is the sway bar. The brown one at the bottom represents the control arm. The yellow is the link that ties the two together. The black represents a rubber bushing, one on each side of what it connected to. Then the gray represents the washer.

Take a look at the pic and let me know if it makes sense to you. I'm not a good artist. LOL

Let me know.

Joe

Yes, dear Joe, I completely understand. Enclosed are the pics showing rubber brushes. First pic upper side and second one is lower side of control arm. Rubber bushings are present.

Hi,

I'm having a hard time determining which is the rubber grommet. I attached a pic below with numbers identifying what I see. Which one is the rubber grommet? Also, if you place your hand on that part and have a helper bounce the vehicle, can you feel a vibration from the part?

When I look at the pic below, number 4 appears to be the steel washer and upside down. The rubber grommet should be against the control arm and the steel washer should cup over it but be against the nut holding it in place.

Let me know.

Joe

Please find the enclosed pic for your ease of understanding.
No. 1 in your attached pic is metal washer.
No. 2 and 4 are single piece rubber bush but looking different in pics.
And no 3 is lower control arm surface looking differently in pic due to reflection.
Below rubber bush there is another metal washer and finally nut.
I will give you feedback on bouncing car results later today.
Thanks

Hi,

Normally, the rubber portion is against the control arm. But according to the pic, it isn't. Are the rubber bushings crushed? And have you had the chance to check if that is where the noise is coming from?
