Transmission problem
1997 Subaru Wagon All Wheel Drive Automatic 132000 miles

My AWD Suburu Automatic Wagon:
WHen I downshift to lower gears IE: going down hill or if I trake my foot off the gas after downshifting, the transmission won't hold the lower gear. IT slips into nutral until I add gas and then it kicks back into gear. It holds the lower gears fine going up hills.

Could this be torque converter problem, a vacume problem, a dirty filter, or is this something more serious? Thanks, Rick C

Ok if you haven't done a trans service in more the 24000 miles then start there as it is needed anyway if there is also an external filter don't forget to change it too. Let me know how that goes and we will take it from there.
