In the last year my car has started falling out of fifth gear. It happens after I come off the gas and then get back on it. The problem seem to be worsening. I do not have a problem with any other gears. I took it to a mechanic but he could not replicate the problem.

Unrelated to that, my steering wheel has a jerking or bang feel when I turn all the way in either direction. This tends to happen only after driving my car for a while.

Thanks,

Nick

The 5th gear may be a synchro in the trans going away, allowing it to pop out of gear, or a shifter bushing not allowing the shifter to move far enough to get it all the way in gear, inspect the shifter where it hooks to the trans for any signs of wear or broken parts. The jerking/bang after wared up may be the rack and pinion, I cant think of much else that will change when warmed up that you will feel in the steering wheel. Try having the power steering fluid flushed and changed to see if it makes a difference
