I have just bought a Subaru 1985 GL Staion Wagon.
The tailgate switch does not appear to work properly as the internal lights[both of them] do not turn off on shutting the tailgate. If I force the tailgate down hard it sometimes works.I have taken the catch/lock from the tailgate but cannot get to theswitch inside, is there any way to get into the catch and check it out, or is there another way of adjusting it?

Those usually dont adjust, they just go in. Try lubing it with WD-40 and shutting the gate 10-15 times, might free it up to work properly, otherwise it will need to be replaced

G'Day Jack. I just tried to give my references but was knocked back, I gave 10 was told I can't give more points than I have. So I looked closer and it said that I have 0.1 points, so I gave them and the reply was"Why give nothing"
So Jack take it as read that your advice is very much appreciated.

No worries. Knowing you were able to fix your car with a shot of lube is good enough.
