My 2001 Legacy Outback has been putting out the "Check Engine" sign on ond off for past few weeks. It comes on and stays for about 3-400 miles. It goes away when I refuel and comes back on at 100 miles after refueling. I just had a 150K servicing done by the dealer and reported the concern. At that time check engine light was off. The dealership called back with the check engine code reporting catalytic converter problem and should be replaced.
I did not have then do the work. Next day the check engine light came back on.

Is it related to the gas cap or the catlytic converter?

Next time the light comes on, take it to autozone and have them scan it and give us the code and I will tell you. Autozone will scan it for free.

PROBLEM IS THE CAT CONVERTER. You will need to have it fixed by the next time you need a emissions test for a inspection sticker
