I have a1995 subrau legacy with a 2.2 engine here, s my problem when I let the motor idle for more 20 minites or so the temp gauge goes way up so I check the radiator cap it is not hot fans are working fine when I rev the engine up 2000 rpm the gauge starts to drop to normal range also when I drive up high mountain passes it does not overheat I had the coolant temp sensor replaced themostat replaced also and the water pump changed

When the fans are on does it blow hot air? If not the t-stat could be defective, or some other flow restriction. Does it use coolant? No leaks in the system?

Hi joe zuerlein,

Does switching the AC on and off repeatedly cause the gauge to move up quickly?

If yes, you have a poor ground for the gauge.
