Transmission problem
1992 Subaru Legacy 4 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

When car is cold I press the gas pedal down and RPMs go up but car won't accelerate right away. (It seams that there is some kind of pressure that must be built up.) After less than 8 seconds it will be fine and act normal. When I am on a hill the car goes backward when you take your foot off the accelerator. Please help, I can't find any answers anywhere.

Have you checked the fluid level? When was the last time the trans was serviced? It may have a clogged filter or be low on fluid. Does it ever leak after sitting overnight? Sometimes if the torque converter drains down it will do what you describe. The trans/engine combo isnt strong enough at idle to hold a car on a hill, even when working perfectly
