2005 Subaru Forester 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Can a axel be broken went the front suspension is change? I got my front suspension change today, the mecanic said the axel came apart went he got to it. It is normal?

HI there,

The shaft will not break, if anything I feel that he had had the outer CV fall apart when it has been removed, now this is rather unusual, as if the CV is faulty you would have hears it knocking when turning, I will need a bit more information on what has actually failed to make a more precise diagnosis.
