It was my father's truck and it was only driven a couple times a month for short times. Truck runs great. I have one problem that I cannot figure out. When it is cold, truck starts and runs great. After you drive for a while and shut it off, then the problem happens. If you get back in to start within a few minutes, it starts fine. If you let it sit for fifteen to thirty minutes, it starts, but stumbles and most of the time shutdown. It is as if it is starving for gas. When you turn the key again, truck starts and runs fine.

I have checked timing, water temperature, vacuum leaks, fuel pressure and all seem to be normal. It has a new EGR, idle air control and new O2 sensor. Those I have replaced in the first few months I had the truck from check engine lights at various times. I have had the fuel system cleaned, both intake and injection system.

I am lost. Any ideas?

What is the fuel pressure when hot? Check for spark when hot? Also, check coil resistance when hot. lets run down this guide to help us fix it.

Please run down this guide and report back.

Ok. Sorry it has taken a few days to get back. I'm in Florida so my afternoons get rained out usually. Was able to test everything yesterday. Spark it good. Coil resistance for both primary and secondary are in normal ranges per my Chilton manual.

Fuel pressure at cold is 40. Fuel pressure when hot drops to 34. I know the normal pressure should be 32-45, so it in normal range. But should it drop that much?

Not normally, but it's still within specs.

Have you done a compression test on it? When it's hot can you hear the fuel pump energizing?

Yes, I have done a compression test. All cylinders were close, ranging from about 145 to 155. I can hear the fuel pump, but it is very slight so I installed a new one all fixed!
