I have the vehicle listed above XL model. Someone tried to steal it and messed up the ignition. So I changed out the whole ignition. Lock cylinder, lock switch, the housing all the wires whole thing. Anyways long story short car sat for a couple weeks battery drained. Had to do a relearn with the new key due to theft deterrent system. Got all that fixed security light is still on but the car starts and runs. Only problem now is car won't come out of Park. Please help.

The theft light remaining on is concerning but that would prevent the start so we need to focus on the shift lock as it is most likely not disengaging.

When you press the brakes do you hear a click in the shifter? If not the solenoid is most likely not operating. This could be the solenoid or something not telling it to release.

When you press the brakes, do the rear brake lights come on? If not, then the brake switch may be the issue.

Due to someone breaking in, they may have damaged the solenoid so let's just start with this and try to figure out if this could be the issue and go from there. Thanks

Hi, thanks for responding. The only thing I hear when I press the brakes unfortunately is a lot of engine noise and it sounds like air when I push the brake pedal.

I guess I should also mention that I was able to get it out of Park by pushing the release button and did drive it around the block, but as I was driving it all the lights on the dash went out.

Okay. If you are pressing the solenoid release button then this is the solenoid issue. Here is the process to replace it. As for the dash lights going out, that is a different issue that we are going to have get a new post started for. We need to keep each post to one topic so that others can find each solution when they search for it. They won't find a dash lights issue under this post so let's stick to the park issue and then figure out the lights on another one. Thanks
