I bought a new starter for my car SE model. Installed new starter. When turned over I hear cranking a few times, then it's just the starter spinning. Like a whirring noise. Flex-plate seemed okay. No missing teeth. Possibly the alternator? Or perhaps some kind of fuse or computer related problem? Help lol.

Hello,

This sounds like the Bendix is not fully engaging the flywheel. I would double check the installation of the starter. Ensure that the wiring is correct and make sure that the starter is installed correctly and both bolts are tight, with nothing misaligned. If that all checks out, you probably bought a lemon starter. I would take it back it where you bought it and have it replaced with one that works. While the starter is out, have an assistant turn the engine over with a ratchet at the crankshaft pulley and make sure that the flywheel is not missing any teeth. Get back to us with what you find out please.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again,

Yes, I'm sorry I should have clarified that a little better. Just get a socket that will fit your Crankshaft Pulley Bolt, it's best to use 1/2" drive and socket if you have it, and turn it with a ratchet. It might take a little bit of elbow grease, but it will slowly turn over. Make sure your transmission is in neutral and your parking brake is on.

Thanks,
Alex
