The service engine soon light came on. I took it in and a guy put a scan tool on it. The code was for a leak (maybe gas cap). We have been driving it and it has been fine except for one thing. When ever we put gas in it, it has trouble starting. The rest of the time it starts very easy. Any ideas?

Hi welcome to 2CarPros.

Do you have the code numbers? If not can you have it re-scanned and get it for me?

Newer vehicles are sticky about lose or bad gas caps. They can cause several issues including poor performance or hard starting so if you could get that code that would be great.

Rich.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Just to add my two cents those codes are related to the evaporative emissions system. The system is designed to collect/store/and send the gasoline vapors back to the engine to be re-burnt to reduce emissions pollution to the earths atmosphere. It is a closed system so there should be no leaks to escape vapors into the environment. Here is a quick tutorial showing what is involved:

The best way to test is to use an scanner and or smoke machine. I've attached below a step-by-step description of your vehicles 2 codes you've provided and how to test. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
