Hi, my boyfriend just got the vehicle listed above with reconstructed title. Car runs with no issues, but the previous owner said that he ran into issues with the starter and hit it to make it to work. My question is, what might cause the issue? He said it happened to him only once. My other question is, if it happens again what is the best thing to do to start the car? Can I jump it though or its not recommend it?

Hello,

If they were able to start it by tapping on the started, it typically points to a faulty starter. Tapping on the starter can work when the starter is not engaging. But it is not a full proof way to start when the starter is faulty.
Since it only happened once it could be due to other component like a loose wire to the starter.
Usually when the starter goes out it will happen all the time or at least most of the time.
If the starter indeed is bad, you won't be able to jump start it. As the jump start is meant to work when the battery is drained or bad.

Here are a couple of helpful guides:

I have attached the starter replacement and test procedure below for your reference.

Let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
