If the car idles for a fair amount of time, more than 5 minutes, it will sporadically burn oil very heavily. Not always and not always the same amount of time. It can also happen while driving at stoplights it seems. CAT's are full I know. Thank you

It sounds like the spring inside the PCV valve is broken allowing full vacuum to the valve which will cause oil to enter the intake manifold to be burnt. Also please make sure the engine oil is not over filled. Here is the location of the PCV valve int he images below so you can check it out. Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

It didn't. I replaced the PCV valve. Spring was functional in the old valve. Tube connected to the valve is cracked on both ends. I'm thinking that wouldn't cause the oil burn as the vacuum would be weakened or nonexistent. Is that correct?

Yes, you could have a broken piston oil control ring, I would remove all spark plugs to see if one has oil on it. Please upload a picture if you find the plug.

Okay, I hope that is not the case, that repair is not something I can afford.
