How to remove speedometer needle safely?

Is it pressed on? I do not want to bend needle stem that goes into the motor.

Here is how you remove the cluster so you can take it apart. Once the lens is removed you can use a small pair of needle nose pliers to work the needle from the main shaft of the speedometer gauge. You should use a protector on the cluster face so as not to damage it such as tape. Take note of the needle position because it will need to be reinstalled in the same place. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Question, in my Ford handbook I have a process 2 follow 2 reprogram after disconnecting the battery, is that the same as you were talking about after installing the cluster.
