Last year around Thanksgiving, I started my car in the morning, let it warm up for 5 minutes and drove out of the driveway. Got a few houses down and smelled and saw blue smoke coming from my exhaust. It got worse every time I hit the gas, so I turned around and started going back home to check out the problem. I had to stop at a stop sign before getting back and when I did, the car felt like it wanted to die but didn’t until I pulled back into my driveway. As soon as I got home the car quit running. I bought the car new and had had a few incidents where I smelled oil in it but nothing this bad. I also felt like my fuel economy had been decreasing and that I had less sensitivity in my gas pedal lately. Had the car serviced and they said it was a cracked PCV valve which they replaced. Got the car fixed and still had less sensitivity in the gas pedal but figured everything must be okay. Two months later I started my car from my desk at work to let it warm up before I left. I walked into the parking lot and there was a cloud of smoke coming from my exhaust pipe again. Got into the car, cabin smelled like oil, shut the car off and turned it back on. Still smoked and when I hit the gas it killed. Let it rest for a few minutes, got back in and drove it home with no smoke. I continued to drive the car for a few months before I had it serviced. The car’s engine is now so loud that it flickers the cabin lights, vibrates my steering wheel, and all of my seats. When my car idles it sounds like it whines. The gas pedal seems to stall. The car refuses to shift unless I lift my foot off the gas. It beeps at me randomly and locks itself. It won’t connect to my Buick App anymore. When I had it serviced the first time they told me that there was moisture in parts of the car where there shouldn’t be any. Any idea what’s wrong with my car? I’m honestly worried to drive it. Now I have an ABS warning on my diagnostic report but no warning lights on my dash. I haven’t had any warning lights during the smoke incidents. But I’m worried that there’s an issue with the computer system too since the car alarm randomly goes off and shuts itself off and it locks by itself. This car is a nightmare. Any ideas?

Hello,

There are probably a couple of things going on here. First off the blue smoke is undoubtedly oil that is being burnt in the engines combustion chambers. The fact that your engine is a turbo model leads me to believe that it could be a problem with the output shaft seal on your vehicle's turbo. A leak from here would send a compressed air/oil mixture into the engine. If you don't use the turbo that much, it would collect in the venturi scroll until it turbo spooled up and would account for a huge blue smoke cloud and the nothing afterwards. The problem with the door locks could be a faulty body control module. If you plan on working on the vehicle yourself, please get back to us and we can help you with instructions on how to diagnose and fix the problems. It just seems like a lot of problems for such a new vehicle to have.

Thanks,
Alex
