Hi, I have a 97 dodge grand caravan V6 ive been having rpoblems with my van, it was running fine untill it started smoking and a weird noise was coming from it, the smokes coming from the altinator belt area, if reved it is slow coming back to idle speed, the engine itself overheats quickly, the belt is not tight, there is no coolant flow though that I can tell. I tried to jump my car with it the other day the other car would not jump and the van would bog down and almost die. Iim lost. Please help

If the belt isn't tight, that can cause it to burn on the spinning pulley and smoke. Now, if it is very loose, it most likely isn't spinning the water pump so that will cause it to overheat very fast. What I need you to check is called the automatic belt tensionier. It sounds like it is bad and allowing the belt to be lose.

Gotta run to for a new wrench, out of all my wrenches dont have one for that size exactly. Im sure I saw everything turning while it was running though? And the belt moves maybe an inch when I press into it. Going to go check tensioner though ty

Glad to help. Let me know what you find. Also, if you remove the belt, check to make sure all accessories are turning freely.

Keep in touch.
Joe
