The vehicle listed above is a Titanium Hybrid it has been making a strange slurping noise ever since the purchase. The noise happens only on cold starts. It lasts for less than 30 seconds and then everything sounds fine. It comes from the air filter box under the hood or very close to that area.

I recorded the first 30 seconds under the hood after starting the car. The noise is most audible at the 15 second mark.

Is this normal?

Hello,

It sounds like it could be the heat-pump compressor for the hybrid system.
That compressor usually makes noise on cold start but then the noise will go away.
Also you might want to look out for a TSB (technical service bulletin) on that vehicle for rattling noise.
Just call your local Ford dealer and as them about rattle noise on cold start up TSB, they should be able to tell you the if there is a remedy available at this time. From what I know that TSB is supposed to be a software update.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you.
