I changed the transmission fluid but I still have a shudder. I believe it's coming from the transfer case. Can you tell me how to change the fluid on it? Also, is there a way to disable the 4wd so I can test to see if the problem is coming from the transfer case? Just like in Subarus where they have a fuse to change it to a fwd.

It appears this transfer case has a drain screw and fill plug on the back of the unit.

Take a look at the attachments below that show this with number 12 and 23.

Also, what I would recommend for this issue is two things. First you need to check your tires circumference. They need to be about the same or you will get a shudder. If you have replaced 1, 2 or 3 tires then that is most likely causing the issue.

Second if your tires are the same then we want to add what is called friction modifier to the transfer case as this will help seat the clutches again so that they stop vibrating.

This is something that is pretty common at most any parts store. I put a picture of the Ford version of it.

Let me know what questions you have and how you make out with this. Thanks

How much transfer case fluid would it need? And how much modifier to add?

The manual does not have a fluid amount spec as it is basically, you fill it until it comes out of the fill plug. Normally this is 2-4 quarts but with your style transfer case, I expect it to be closer to the 2 quarts.

As for how much friction modifier, you add one 4 oz bottle and that is it. Basically this is like conditioner for your hair. It softens and allows them to slip when engaging. Right now they are hard and they skip which causes the shudder as they engage.
