Gear shift stuck in gear will not move and cannot depress brake pedal. Because it is stuck in gear will not start.

Hello,
Lets start by removing the shifter cable from the transmission and try moving the shifter. This will tell us if it is a cable or transmission problem.
You will need to jack the car up first.
