You will release tension on the tensioner clockwise. I've attached pictures below of the belt routing diagram and what the belt tool looks like. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions on this issue. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

There are no special tools other then a belt tensioner tool that you can get at most parts store. You should be able to use a wrench on the center bolt head and relieve the tension. I included the instructions from the manual for your review.
Can you get a video of what is happening when you try to remove tension on the tensioner? Then maybe we can figure out what is happening. Thanks
