Hi,

I'm not sure I can help. We are here to provide assistance with the diagnostics and repairs of vehicle issues.

The part numbers you provided are available online. I typed "GM part number" first and then the number you provided. I found them on Amazon and other locations. However, they seemed overpriced to me. Have you tried that technique?

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

What parts are you looking for? Are they the part numbers you indicated in the first post?

I am looking for a shift cable and a selector cable for my 1994 Grand Am GT with a 5-speed manual transmission. Yes, those GM part numbers are correct. Amazon lists only one of them and it is out of stock, as I expected. I realize the OEM cables aren't made anymore, so I'm looking for equivalent aftermarket parts. I've combed the internet without success, and I've joined 3 Grand Am-related Facebook groups + a Grand Am-related members-only website. No responses yet.

Hi,

Is the one you have repairable? I've seen them basically remanufactured. Also, I have a good friend that has a car lot. I will touch base with him to see if he has any suggestions. If he does, I'll let me know.

Neither cable is repairable. One is broken & the other is stretched. I appreciate you helping me with my search. I have feelers out all over the place, but I'm beginning to lose hope. The car is in fantastic shape, runs great and I really want to keep it on the road.

I will let you know what I find. Also, for the one that is stretched, can you use an additional spacer in the linkage to make up for the length?

As far as the one that is broken, check to see if there is one similar that you can modify to make work.

If the car is in good shape, you may need to engineer your own cables.

HI Joe. I will ask my mechanic re spacer in the linkage. As for the broken cable, my search is for a cable that isn't listed as a conventional replacement but will do the job.

Hi,

I understand. I hope you find something that will work. It's funny. I remember when I was younger, I was able to repair cables on my old dirt bikes. I would take the guts out of the old sheath and install a new cable and solder new ends on it. It always worked.

And the idea that you have a good vehicle, and this is preventing its use has to be totally frustrating.

Regardless, let me know how things turn out for you. Also, my buddy is still out of town. I'm hoping he has suggestions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Excellent. Someone had some old stock which is getting harder and harder to find. That's great news.

Have you been able to get them installed?
