Recently has been doing it more often and staying on longer. This is a work truck, no electric locks, windows, seats or anything like that. I do not believe the truck has a security system. About 5-6 times over the last 6-8 months it wont run. It starts for a second and shuts off like it's not getting enough fuel. Researching this it sounds like a pass-lock or vats problem. I can sit there trying to start it off and on and finally after about 10-15 minutes it will start. What could it be and if it is a security issue how can I eliminate that system all together? Thanks

Hi,

I do believe it is related to the security system. It isn't something that can be eliminated. When the engine will not start, does the security light stay on? If it does, try this. Turn the key to the run position and allow it stay there for approximately 10 minutes without trying to start it. If the light goes out, see if it starts. If it does, then we have an issue with the security system. Also, if you have a spare key, try it. An older key may not be getting recognized as easily.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

When I start it the security light does not come on. It will just randomly come on while I am driving. I had a plain key made that I know does not have a chip and it starts the truck no problem. It's a work truck that belonged to the city so it's a no frills package.

Like I said its a no frills work truck so there is no remote or electric locks or electric windows. I guess I’ll check the ignition tumbler for those wires you said break. It's a 2002 so I guess that could be it. Thanks and I will let you know what happens.
