2003 Saturn Vue question on transmission

I was just about to buy a 2003 saturn vue with 2.2 4 cyl. , 5 speed manual but then I saw a bunch of bad reviews about that year and the transmission and how some people have had to replace transmission 3 times, is there solid truth to this and if I were to buy a 2004 could this problem be avoided? Sorry I know this is for repair questions but I didnt know who to ask and I cant mess up and purchase a bad vehilcle, I dont have that kind of money.

The problems u have seen have been on the automatic 2.2 engines I have rebuilt tons of them. The manuals havent had problems with them except seen some clutch slave cyclinders leak and need to replace them. Engines are good too as long as it was maintaned.
