Engine Performance problem
1998 Saturn SL2 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Got the code P0401, which is for EGR insufficient flow. Rreplaced the EGR valve, cleared the code, but it keeps coming back (tried three times). What other than the EGR valve could cause this code?

Carbon build-up in passageway to EGR valve may restrict exhaust gas flow causing this code to appear.

We often find that other things may cause this code -
you may want to check the engine temperature sensor and its connector (corrosion) - it may read incorrectly causing the computer to think the egr valve is not performing correctly - check/clean the ground bolts on the coil for corrosion also
