I was woundering if you had to pull the engine to replace the haedgasket and if the head has to be machined if removed

u can replace the head gasket without pulling the engine u dont have to always machine the head ethier but use a straight edge when u take it of to make sure the head and block arent warped.so why are u replacing the head gasket anyways thats a pretty uncommon thing to replace unless u take the head off for some reason.
