I understand that the timing belt for the Saturns is a chain. I would like to know how long the timing belt lasts? I need to spend some money on the car to pass the smog test and was wondering if it is worth it to fix the car. It is works fine and I keep the cr maintained.

Its called a timming a chain not a belt and they will last a long time if the car is maintained especially oil changes every 3,000 miles or three months and also dont let it get low on oil. The only time u need to change them is when they start to make noise. Theres really no life span on them my sisters 93 sl1 has over 200,000 miles on her chain.I have changed them before at low mileage but those people didnt change the oil like they should have. Hope this helps.
