Engine Cooling problem
1999 Saturn Sedan 117000 miles

I was driving home from work in stop and go traffic for about an hour-I drive stick- and the car was revving up quite high when I was in neutral. About 10 minutes from my home my engine started to smoke. It smelled like the coolant. When my fiance arrived to help me he poured the coolant in and it took almost an entire bottle. The 10 minute drive home it was completely fine but I know that's not far to go. Any idea what my next course of action-if any-should be?

Does your a/c work if it does then turn it on and see if your radiator cooling fan come's on with it. Make sure the center of your a/c clutch is spinning when your looking for fan on. Let me know what you find.I would also be looking for leak's.

Thank you for responding to me.

I haven't used my AC in a couple days because the weather's been nice. But it had been working normal as usual lately. I forgot to mention that last Tuesday I was rear ended.I DID take my car in immediately after for service and the only "issue" I had was that I had NO oil whatsoever (as I was due for an oil change this came as no surprise).

I haven't noticed any leaks on my driveway or anything.

Is it ever possible that sometimes you just need more coolant and the problem's resolved ! :)

That's wish full thinking if the coolant was that low where did it go?It had to leak or be consumed some how. What most likely happened is there is a leak and that caused the overheating or the overheating caused the loss of coolant from boiling over. Let's try what I told you to try and we will go from there.
