Once my 96 saturn sc2 gets to running temperature it will not shift out of the lower gears, I believe it has something to do with the temperature because it will run much longer in the winter than in the summer before the problem arises. Any ideas?

Let's start with you going to a auto part's store like auto zone and getting me the code number's it has. Does your transmission shift hard?Do you have a delay in reverse?

Yes I do have the reverse slam that everyone talks about, I was also wondering if replacing the valve body could be a solution for the shifting problems i"m having?

If you could check those code's for me that would help me make a decision on which way I would go on the repair's for your car. Also check your fluid level when the car is warmed up on flat level ground. Also check what color it is milky, black, sliver or red?

Ok I will check the codes as soon as I can get out of the house, the transmission fluid is black, and at the correct level, im pretty sure it is the valve body based on what ive read on other sites, how do I know if I have a mp7 or a TAAT unit though? Its a 96 sc2

If the fluid is black you haven't changed it in a long time your suppose to change it every 30,000 miles at that mileage it's still redish. That year and model came with both the mp6 and mp7 transmission's. To see which one you have go in the trunk on the drivers side under the carpet on the spare tire cover there will be a sticker with a bunch of code's on it you will see a mp6 or mp7 on that sticker. Let's get those code's though and go from there.

For the fluid I would use the castrol high mileage transmission fluid in the green bottle's. That's what I have been using in all my saturns and family's saturns. They sell it at some of the walmarts. On the filter I would try to get a fram one that's who make's the factory one's. They do have factory recondition valve body even saturn one's. There is a lot of rebuilt one's out there.I have only used the saturn rebuilt one's so I don't know of a good place to get one but they are reasonable. Your looking for the one's for the taat transmission. If you look online you will probably get the best price.
