Spark plug replacement

2003 saturn vue. 5 speed, 4 cylinder, 2.2 with 80,000 mi. I replaced the plugs by removing the top plate that holds all four spark plug boots. When re-installing the plate, I didn't 'feel' the boots 'snap' onto the plugs. Auto Zone says that I should only feel resistance. Car seems to run fine but the 'service engine soon' light is on now. Do I just need to reset the light (if so, how)? Or could there have been more to the plug installation? Thanks! MW

Hey mw,
First thing to do is have AZ pull the codes for you. They do this free of charge. Until we know the trouble codes there is no way of knowing if they are related to your plug replacement.

Good luck and let us know. :)

Forgot to mention that they will reset the light with the code reader.

The problem has changed. I'm certain now that the plugs are installed correctly. This may or may not be coinsidence, but first of all-- Auto Zone's diognostic showed no codes at all, but the fan stays on all the time, the idle is rough, there's a squeeling noise on excelleration after driving a distance and the 'service engine soon' light remains on. Again, it's a 2003 Saturn Vue 4 cylinder, 5 speed with 80,000 mi. Thanks!

The ses light denotes a stored code. Unfortunately the code might be one that is vehicle specific. A generic code reader will not be able to retrieve these type of codes. You could try again but I believe you will have to take it to the dealer for a diagnostic.

Good luck and let us know. :)
