When I Come to a stop I hear a grinding noise from the rear brakes. The car is a 2003 Saturn L 200 with 4 cylinder engine The front discs brakes are good it has rear drum brakes. I brought it to my mechanic He said it was dust in the rear brakes giving me that noise. He cleaned it. It has worked for a day but the noise came back, can you give me any advice on what to do.

Thanks. :)

My advice is to call your mechanic and explain that his solution didn't work.

Does it only happen when braking or is the noise also heard at low speeds?

If the noise bothers you that much have the drums machined.

Good point, I just assumed when they had the drums off they would have ground the lip off. Different techs do different things on a Clean and adjust though.

The cost of new drums is probably chaeper (approx 20.00 each) than taking the car to a mechanic. Consider if you are handy replacing the old drums with new ones. Also sometime the pad materials on cheaper brake shoes can be noisy.
