My "service engine soon" light seems to come on from time to time and whenever I shift gears the car idles up a little bit even though my foot is completely off the gas. Also, when idleing then starting off in first, when done quickely it somtimes caughs and dies. Almost like an old carborated engine. I thought it could be my air filter (i've never changed it and I've had it almost to years (30,000) miles and it seemed to be fairly dirty. I will see how the gas mileage does now that I've changed air filter but it was very poor compared to what it was before I started experiancing a problem.

Try taking and getting a complete fuel system cleanout, Gumout carries a professional version that you connect to a vaccume hose on the intake, any vaccume hose will do but as a last resort you can connect to the brake booster. If you are not in a shop, you could take the car to any mechanic, or a little oil change shop and let them do it since it is "For professional use only". :)

Try checking for trouble codes first.

Good luck and let us know. :)
