Misfire problem

I bought a 1997 Saturn SC1 last May with 87000 miles. We have had an intermittent problem with the engine light coming on and misfires on cylinders 2 and 3. Our mechanic scanned the PCM for codes and found P0300 multiple misfire; scanned datastream; found all misfires on 2 and 3 cylinders. He checked the coil pack and ic module to be o.K; injector balance test o.K; fuel pressure during misfire o.K; found catalytic converter partially blocked and replaced; also replaced crankshaft fluctuation sensor due to leaking. Still having misfire problems after above repairs. Feels problem is PCM needing recalibration. I called my local Saturn dealer and they say the PCM cannot be recalibrated. My mechanic says he read up on ongoing problems with this particular car, but the Saturn dealer denies it. I plan to take it in for them to look at, but don't feel they will do what is in my best interest. Please help with any suggestions. Thank you.

My gut feeling it to stick with the guy that has looked at it. There is something that roubles me about what the dealer said and what your local guy says. Talk to him.

There are only a few things these two cylinders share. If the compression is good, ie; not a slightly blown headgasket between two cylinders, then I would go to the ignition coil. 1 and 4 share a coil and 2 and 3 share one, testing good or not you cant really test it under the proper conditions. Have replaced many Saturn coils for just such a problem
