Engine problem
1995 Other Saturn Models 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Manual 92,000 miles

I bought my 95 saturn SL2 last year in mid March and I haven't had this problem until this year. My car will start then sputter a little then shut off. I was able to start it sometimes by putting starting fluid into it. My friend said because it is so cold it wont start. He has the exact same car and the same thing happens to his car. Is it a flaw in the model? And is there something I can do about it? Thank you

I had the same problem with my 95 sl2.

It did mostly happen when it was cold back in NY.

Once in CA it happened less often which would suggest the cold is definately a factor.
However, after a good flushing and replacement of ALL vital fluids and filters it occured even less often.
I just replaced all the spark plugs as well before a trip up into the mountains. After literally sitting parked burried in snow for 3 days, she started right up without a sputter and ran beautifully all the way back down to LA from Tahoe( 400 miles.) Now that I think about it. She used to sputter even in gear while accelerating and that is no longer and issue either.
