My car shakes between 55 and 65mph. It seems to be getting worse lately by shaking a bit earlier and ending a bit later. There are no other problems associated with this it seems. What could it be?

Hi Jennifer,

Do you feel it more in the steering wheel or throughout the hole car? If more in the steering wheel then it could be that you trough a wheel weight and one or both front tires are out of balance.

Actually my car is Horribly off alignment and could be out of balance. I need an alignment and new tires for sure! But I didn't know if that would affect the shaking since it is so distinct between the 55 and 65 mph. My brother, who is a mechanic in the army, thought it might be the transmission. I was hoping this wasn't the case.
But it is the whole car that is shaking definitely. Not just in the steering. If it does appear to be more shaky in one area I don't notice because it shakes so much.
Does this help narrow your advice?

Jennifer

I still believe it will be the alignment and ballance. It could be made worse if your tires are scalloped or if the trend has seperated.

My experience as far as the tranny being the problem, you would would feel it at lower speeds also and while excelleration. And in most cases that is cause by bad tranny mounts.
