2002 Saturn L200 EVAP emission system malfunction

Could you please explain to me so I can understand
what my diagonostric read with my service engine
soon light. The reading came up PO440-EVAP
EMISSION SYSTEM. What on earth does this mean
and how serious. Thankyou

That code means you have a leak in your fuel system the engine pulls a vaccuum on ur gas tank etc removes all the air when your ecm closes the system off then monitors the amount of leakage it has and if it has a leak then it will flag a code. It could be a simple as a bad gas cap remove your cap and inspect the seal if the seal is cracking then replace it. Also could set that code if the cap was loose. Also could be a leaking fuel pump oring cracked or leaking line etc. Bad fuel tank pressure sensor. Its best to have a professionial look at it. Hope this helps.
