MY CAR STRATS AND RUNS WELL FOR ABOUT 1/2 MILE BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP ON ITS OWN. I HAVE TO WAIT 30 TO 40 MINUTES TO START AGAIN.

Welcome to the forum. Maybe you can get it to stall in the drive way, so you don't get stranded. When it refuses to restart, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs, if you have plenty of spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure. I always start with the basics.
