Just bought a 2000 Saturn L200 with 80K miles on the clock. Three days into owning and it's started idling high, like 1500 revs.

Not mechanically inclined, but willing to give easy stuff a go in order to not have to pay thru the nose to get this fixed. Please, if you are able to answer, do so in laymans terms.

Cheers,

Dai

ok while its idling high look at my diagram i posted number 7 is ur idle air control valve that sets ur idle by creating a controled vaccuum leak.tap that with a big screwdriver handle or a little hammer dont hit it hard enough to knock it off ur throttle body though.see if ur idle comes down.if it does u can try taking it off and cleaning it if that doesnt work then it will have to be replaced.u could also have a vaccum leak u would check that by getting some carb spray and letting the car idle with the air cleaner tube on the throttle body that big black tube that goes to ur air box where ur air filter is and spraying around where ur intake meets ur head and the vaccum lines anywhere vaccuum can be leaking.if the idle goes up or down or the engine stumbles or dies while ur spraying u have a leak there.also have ur car scanned for codes at the auto parts store.let me know what u find.
