Transmission problem
2002 Saturn L100 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2002 Saturn LS and after the car is on the road for 20 or 30 min my speedometer gauge starts fluctuating and it has trouble shifting gears until eventually it just won't even shift out of first and the speedometer drops to 0 even tho I can still go 10 or 15 mph. How do I fix this? What could be the problem?

First of all thank you very much for your donation. The first thing I need you to do is go to a auto part's store like auto zone and have your car scanned for code's. If you have any let me know the code number's and we will go from there.

Ok I went to auto zone but the only code they came back with was an O2 sensor going out but they said that was no big deal.

This is what you will have to do when the speedometer stop's working you will have to unplug the speed sensor and get a ohm's meter and test across the terminal's of the speed sensor on the transmission. Let me know how many ohm's it read's. If it read's as a open it's bad.I emailed you a diagram of where the speed sensor is to your personal email.

I will def. Check that when my dad gets back. But would the speed sensor cause it to have trouble shifting gears and finally get stuck in first?

Since you don't have any code's to go by that's are best shot. It would explain your speedometer not working and you said when that happens your transmission shift's bad after that. Yes if the computer doesn't know what the speed of the car is it can affect shifting. Let's start with that.
