To make the longest story short. My life partner here has a malfunctioning top that became difficult to operate and has now seized. I believe the gears are out of alignment but mechs won't touch it. Is it not possible to operate the top manually? Everyone says no. Otherwise flawless performance. THX!

I've got the same problem. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. I'll let you know how I make out.

Here's what I found out.

1. It is possible to raise the top manually. From the owner's manual: On the top left corner of the back seat rest there is a key hole. Use your ignition key to unlock and lower the back seat rest. On the right side there is a slit in the felt fabric. Reach through the slit and find a thin lever. Pull the lever forward and the top will release from the motor. However, once you raise the top manually, you will not be able to lower it without going to a dealer to have the top reset.

2. I went to the dealer. There are two fixes. One is a tonneau top "re-install kit" that works 85% of the time. Parts and labor are $421.

If the kit doesn't work, then you need a new tonneau top motor. Parts and labor estimated at $1500.

I opted for the kit, of course, and it seems to be working.
