I have a gm diesel engined saab 93.

Keeps on losing coolant - litres of it
when the car is run on the driveway it all seems ok but when driven the coolant low light comes on the expansion tank is empty,
the thermostat has been tested and is ok.

the heating in the car is freezing even when set hot and

the engine temp gauge says all is fine

cannot find an obvious leak and no mixing of fluids in the engine so hopefully not head gasket

and no obvious leaks around the water pump

Any smoke comming from the exhaust? If you see smoke, could be a head gasket problem. Get a block test done and it will tell you if the head gasket is leaking. A pressure test will find small hard to locate leaks.

No smoke
the engine seems to be running fine

and the amount of coolant its losing is vast
but the temp gauge says normal
could it be an airlock?
