Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Saab 9-3 repair Question 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 110k miles

A SAAB mechanic told me the rear engine seal is leaking and requires replacement. His estimate
is approx. $2400 & mentioned the car is not worth fixing at that cost.

Is $2400 an accurate estimate?
How many hours of labor are generally involved for this job? I'm thinking that the part costs are minimal

It's a mint convertible & I'd like to keep it but don't want to get ripped off.
Thanks for your feedback!

The labor guide says it is 6 hours of labor to replace it. So unless he is charging somewhere around $400 an hour for labor, he is way off. Find someone else, it sounds like he is just blowing you out, as if he doesnt want to do it.
