My engine light comes on. It goes out for about 20 m iles if I disconnect & reconnect the battery.
My friend assures me that I need a new catalytic converter. The car runs OK, has good turbo response etc.
Could he be right? Can a catalytic converter be cleaned out, repaired?
Thank yoou. I look forward to your response.

The light comes on there is a problem, with disconnecting the battery does work for a little while on newer cars the car needs to be driven about 15 to 20 miles to reset the computer. If there is a proble the light will come on. When a converter usually goes bad you could 1. Smell like rotten eggs, 2 the converter will get really hot and after driving it a while you will be able to see it glow red. 3, there would be a drastic amount of back pressure and the car will loose power. The things don't all happen but there is usually at least one happens.
