1999 Saab 9-3 repair Question Manual

I just bought this saab and got a very good deal on it, but I have noticed a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust. The guy I bought it from told me the turbo charger is going out, but my husband thinks it is a blown head gasket. Since neither him nor myself are mechanics I am hoping to get some advice.

Hi jennm6,

If you have coolant losses and overheating issues, then it could be a blown head gasket.

If above does not occur, then it could be the turbo unit or bad valve seals.

For a blown head gasket, the smoke would not be too much but if it is a turbo unit, the smoke can be extremely thick, especially when the engine is revved and would smell a lot like burnt oil.
