My car keeps doing a regeneration for the DPF most times I start the van up, earlier on today I was driving from a mates and I had a massive judder, as I got to Asda and left I was driving down peaks parkway and I got a massive droning noise. As I started to put my my foot on the accelerator carried on making the noise until I could pull over done it through all gears. I pulled over on the left and switched engine of for 5 minutes started up the engine and the noise had gone, when all that happened I lost a lot of power in the engine and the sound of the engine was just strange but all went back to normal when ignition switched on and off.

Your description sounds like the DPF is partially clogged and the system keeps trying to burn it clean. The problem could be from normal use and soot build up or possibly the turbo seals are failing and dumping oil into the exhaust and greatly increasing the soot as well as binding with the soot and blocking the DPF. Without dropping the exhaust and physically checking both it would be almost impossible to tell, unless you have noticed increased oil usage? Then you have the option of having your DPF cleaned or replaced. Cleaning is much cheaper most times but it depends on who does it.
