I was going forty mph I hit the set cruise button and suddenly my car revved all the way to the 8 then back to normal. All within a second. Thankfully there was nobody in front of us. For the last two weeks my belt has been screaming as I accelerate. Since that happened it stopped! We were just two miles from my Mom's so I will not have to drive it and my Hubby is coming tomorrow. We own a mechanic shop. I just want some ideas of what it could be. Please help!

Sounds like your transmission slipped. At over 200,000 miles, it is entirely possible with any car. Check the transmission fluid. If it is black, then that is the problem.

Here is a how-to guide on checking your transmission fluid: https://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2006_Honda_CR-V_SE_2.4L_4_Cyl./transmission_fluid/check_fluid_level

Thank you. That actually was my eleven year old son's first guess. He is quite the little mechanic. I do know I need to replace the belt. Pretty sure we replaced it about 100,000 miles back. This car is a peach! We hit the jackpot with it. Second owners and I bought it December 2008 with 96,000 miles on it. I would cry if something ever happened to it beyond repair.

Yeah I know that feeling. I get a little attached to my cars too. At least the good ones. I have also had a few that I could not wait to get rid of.

My Husband is driving it the 2 hours home today and leaving me his 2005 Honda Element. I do not like that car lol it is like driving a horseless stagecoach. It is more roomy than my CR-V but the seats are not comfy and has some MAJOR blind spots. BUT if that means my kids and I won't be stuck on the side of the interstate then that is fine with me. Hoping it was juat a random fluke type thing. Thank y'all for the input.

He ended up leaving me my car. But I have to drive 65 instead of 70 to 75. 2 hours is going to take forever haha. He said if it acts up at all to get somewhere safe and he will bring the trailer and get us. We can't afford for something to break in my Mommy car. I guess I need to put my muatang up for sale for real in case I meed to make a repair. Thankfully he is a mechanic so we have no labor charges.

It hasn't done it since. I have driven daily with no issues. He is changing the belt I think Sunday. He said my tranny seems fine and possibly did it because of me accelerating and hitting cruise around the saw time or that it just has lots of miles on it.

Yeah it could be something like that. Also, often times when a transmission goes bad it goes over a period of time. I once drove a car with slipping transmission for a couple of years, and then sold it instead of fixing it. It was good enough to get me around wherever I needed to go. Either way, if it's acting good right now then don't question it. Accept the blessing and keep on riding.
