This problem started suddenly. This is my knockabout car and usually I just run short errands or get coffee with the other Geezers. Anyway, I had coffee for about an hour and a half and got back into the car and wouldn’t start immediately. Second crank for about 6 seconds and it starts but runs rough and then I usually add a little gas and get the RPMs up and then it runs fine. If it has been sitting overnight, she fires right up with no problem.

There is also an issue with the engine running rough at highway speed (60-65), but I rarely take it out on the highway.

Hi,

What you described can be the result of a couple of different things. For example, there could be a fuel injector leaking and after sitting overnight, it doesn't affect the starting of the engine. If the vehicle hasn't had a tune-up for some time, that can be a cause.

Here is what I suggest. We need to scan the computer to see if there are any codes stored. This vehicle has an OBD1 system, so you don't need a scanner.

Follow the directions in this link and let me know what you find:

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
