Rough idle and no power?

I'm so frustrated with this darn car. I haven't had time to check the PCV valve and hose. But I have been driving the car some, probably about 50-60 miles and it was great. Until today. My mom was on the interstate, and it overheated. This time coolant was sprayed all over the engine compartment but mostly on the driver's side. So, I got it towed to my house and refilled the coolant. I let it run for about 30 minutes and drove it a couple of blocks. I was hoping it would do this again so I could narrow down where it was leaking from. It did not do it again. I even revved the engine to about 2500 rpms for a few minutes. The coolant level was still right where I filled it to. However, I did notice the radiator fan never came on. I do know for a fact that before today it was working. I checked all the hoses, and they hadn't come off, they weren't even loose. The cap on the surge tank was tight. The only thing that was different or wrong was the fan. What could have caused it to overheat and spray coolant? I'm at a complete loss on what to do next. I do know that I cannot have my elderly mother driving a car that's not dependable. Please help!

I attached a couple of pictures of the engine. I circled in red what I think is the PCV hose. I removed the air filter intake hose so you could see where what I think is the PCV hose is attached. Let me know if that's right or not. The other pic is just a regular pic of the engine compartment. I don't know if you can take the pic and circle the correct PCV hose if I'm wrong. But just in case you can I'm attaching one.

Hi,

You found them. What you highlighted in orange is correct. The hard part is behind the engine it gets a little difficult to see. Take your time. Check for the smaller hoses I highlighted above and make sure they are not damaged as well.

As far as the coolant issue is concerned, you should pressure test the system. It requires a pressure tester, but most parts stores will lend one to you.

Here is a link that explains how to pressure test the cooling system:

Let me know what you find.

Joe

Hey Joe,

Just wanted to give you an update. I just ordered a radiator pressure tester from Amazon a few days ago. The local auto parts stores wanted a $250.00 deposit for a loaner, and I don't have it to spare, not even for a day. The one I ordered is supposed to be here Wednesday. It was only $70. I've driven the car some but only about 4-5 miles at a time. There haven't been any issues. I'm scared to drive it any further until we figure out what's going on with it. I will update you after the tester arrives and I perform the test.
