Rotor and pads

HI,

Just watched your very helpful video on changing the rotors and pads on the front wheels of a VW Beetle.

I have a 2008 VW New Beetle Convertible and would like to change all four rotors and all pads. I have never attempted such a repair but your video suggests I can do it. I do have a question or two though.

Are the back brakes the same as the front? That is, is the procedure the same?

What size Allen socket do I need for this repair?

Can I just order the parts online? Need I worry about sizes or part numbers or will they be standard based on the vehicle model and, do you have any suggestions as to what I should buy?


Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

The rear brakes are far different from the front. They are ratcheting calipers with the parking brake mechanism built in. You need special tools to retract the pistons and they are very expensive if you damage one.
