Rock chips in paint

When I get rock chips in my paint do they have to be treated carefully or get worse or will they just remain as they are no matter what I do such as when I give my car a car wash? Can I rub that area with the same amount of pressure or does it have to be treated more carefully?

it will stay the same until it is sanded down and repainted from a body shop.
